ISOF - Irish Science Open Forum
A forum for scientists
An open, independent forum for people involved in science, has been formed and will be launched at the RDS in October. The Irish Science Open Forum represents the interests of researchers, educators, and others working in science.
The primary aim of ISOF is to create a big event in November 2008 showcasing the best in Irish science. The ISOF Council is currently working on drawing up a programme of high profile presentations, and this will be backed up by an industry R&D exhibition. Apart from the core series of presentations, open to the public, ISOF will also help initiate other events throughout the country.
ISOF will celebrate the excellence of research in Ireland, and the back-up from an industry exhibition will help give the 2008 event enough scale to attract significant public and media attention.
During the event, some of Ireland's leading scientists will be discussing world class research, a number of cross-disciplinary seminars are planned, and at the R&D show researchers will have an opportunity to meet people from industry.
ISOF is run by an Executive Council drawn from the universities, institutes, and other organisations involved in science. A Council to support the Executive is now being formed, an this is open to scientists, researchers, and educators who want to become involved in ISOF.
As an open organisation, there is no formal membership, but all those involved in science are invited to register by emailing their address to the ISOF contact,
.
All those on the register will receive an occasional alert notice about ISOF activities, and there are plans to use the register for networking among scientists, including Irish researchers living abroad.
